My artist's book is 8x10, as all the photos are vertical. I am having difficulty getting the duplicity title to complement the photo, but I will keep trying.
Reflections remind us to experience our environment as another element. Whether it is a duplication of an image, or a conscious critique within ourselves, we can contemplate our surroundings. My artist's book contains elemental reflections that inspire the viewer to observe and decipher its true meaning. Allow the images to transport you to another realm, if only for a moment.
I'm such a fan of your work!
ReplyDeleteI like your use of reflects, and negative space, it's awesome!
Keep up the good work, I'm definitely following this blog :)
You may not even need a title. As long as there is a mirror reflecting something in the picture on your front cover, people could probably get an idea about what the book contains. But keep trying!

For the cover you could take an image of a foggy reflective surface with the title written in the fog or somthing like that maybe lipstick on a mirror of someone putting on makeup(thier back to the audience)

ReplyDeleteI haven't looked at blurb too much since I won't be using it for this project but is there a way you could possible have the title printed on the spine of the book? In that case you could have the whole front and back cover to showcase what you want without disrupting any of it with text that doesn't fit the way you want it to. You could even have "Duplicity" be "mirror images" of itself on the spine depending on how you set it up. You could also do as suggested and not have a title or have the title of the book reflected in the actual photograph. There are a lot of possibilities so just play with it! :)
ReplyDeleteI like your idea for the title. I definitely think that adding a title would be a great idea. It would be interesting to possibly add a title that reflects onto the cover, almost as if there are two of the exact same titles on the front cover.

if you are having a hard time adding the title to the front cover, just remember you A) dont necessarily have to have it there or B) dont feel like you have to place the text there in a conventional way. maybe rotate the text sideways and place it close to the spine of the book.
ReplyDeleteYea, I agree with everyone about not adding a title. I think it's fine the way it is. The photo pretty much speaks for itself. Love the one you posted up of the house reflections in the water-BEAUTIFUL!!
ReplyDeleteThese are SO PRETTY! I agree with JM that you should put the title on the spine of the book, instead of on the front. I can't wait to see more! Keep up the great work! :D
ReplyDeleteI agree with Juleah and Josh. Maybe try and put the title on the spine and leave the cover for the picture, and then you can always put the title again in the inside flap with the artist statement.
ReplyDeleteYou don't need a title but I like it. I like one of the ideas above about the images on the front and back be mirror images of themselves ... maybe try the title on the spine if possible? or even just put the title on the inside page.
ReplyDeleteMaybe do a tall thin font with a reflection like this http://www.tutorial9.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/reflection.jpg
ReplyDeletei like this picture. the mirror which is reflected with the tree is good. i like the idea too. but.. Do we have to make the consistnece bewteen the back cover image and the front conver image? if we have to do, these photo won't match each another. i mean it has same concept and good image. but it dosen't related with each other. the image and color was not consider each other. it is complicated.
ReplyDeleteKyla, that is exactly what I had in mind, but maybe a really simple, clean lower case font. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMaybe a title on the inside cover would work better? I think you do need something. The photos look good, but I'd enjoy some more color.
ReplyDeleteI like the new addition to the photos. All your photos look amazing so far. Have you thought about putting the title on the inside of the book and having only pictures on the outside. I'm not sure, that might look strange but it might look neat. I think you should make your pictures as big as you can in the book!
ReplyDeleteDanielle
the photos are all looking great. i would agree that the front and back photos should maybe be completely different. i would suggest straying a little from conventional 8x10 size and see if there is anything more rectangular like 6x10. i dont know if that is offered with the method you have chosen for your book.
ReplyDeleteElaine,
ReplyDeletePlease take a look at christine's blog because she has a nice example of what i am looking for. I want you to lay out your pictures on a particular sized image that you have already chosen. You can play with font in this setting. We can pick appropriate form there. It is impossible to talk about what we cannot see.
Your images are lovely. Great job there.
If you need some help with layout, then go see Rezvan and Sam as they are great in these aeshteic matters.

i think the use of the mirror for the front and back of book really empahsize ur statement. also, the fact that ur pics are all vertical also plays up the mirror u use in ur pics. keep it up!
